WE NEED THE AMAZON, WE WORK FOR THE AMAZON

The Amazon is essential to the planet and its inhabitants. It is the largest tropical forest on earth, a key to regulating our climate. It contributes to a healthy water cycle and hosts an immense and unique diversity of plants and animals. This forest is home of indigenous and traditional populations which have been their guardians for thousands of years.

OUR KEY PROJECTS COVER A BROAD APPROACH THOUGHT FOR THE FOREST, ITS POPULATIONS AND OUR PLANET: REFORESTATION AND FOREST RESTORATION, FIRE AND DEFORESTATION PREVENTION, SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SECURITY, GUARANTEE OF RIGHTS, BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION, DATA, POLICY MAKING AND TERRITORIAL MANAGEMENT, REDD PROJECTS, CLIMATE GOALS, THE PARIS AGREEMENT AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS.

REFORESTATION

We have very ambitious projects and the capacity to restore and reforest deforested and degraded lands in the Amazon. Join our most ambitious reforestation projects, help restore the forest!

We work with family farms, small agriculture and traditional populations in protected areas (as indigenous peoples and rubber, nuts and other forest products collectors, the populations that live in the Amazon and have been protecting it for centuries). As we promote the reforestation and recovery of deforested and degraded lands, we also prevent new deforestation, by providing farmers with a new production model that favors sustainable agriculture and cattle practices.

SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SECURITY

We work close to the communities to help develop sustainable agriculture practices and forest economy, food security and economic sustainability. This project allows the recovery of deforested and degraded lands in a vast area,, and in doing so, it prevents new deforestation, as it provides farmers with a new production model that favors sustainable agriculture and cattle practices. The planted forests provide a better economic return to the producers, who no more need to look for new territories in where to clear the forest.

FROM REDD TO PREVENTING FIRES AND DEFORESTATION

Our actions include research, development of the local groups social organization, monitoring and prevention of fires and deforestation and a broad experience in the implementation of REDD projects.

CLIMATE GOALS, THE PARIS AGREEMENT AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

AICA contributes to the implementation of the Climate Goals of the Paris Agreement concerning changes in the use of land. AICA also aligns its actions with the international agreements, objectives and commitments, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, The Convention of Biological Diversity and the World Water Forum.

BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION

Conservation of natural ecosystems, flora and fauna guarantees sustainability of natural resources and allows the maintenance of several environmental services essential to human well-being. The southwest of the Amazon is highlighted by its biological diversity. However, it has major challenges and responsibilities regarding species conservation.

GUARANTEE OF RIGHTS

One of the most valuable assets in Brazil is its cultural diversity. We have hundreds of different languages and cultures that are still little known. In the very core of these languages and cultures are the traditional populations, among them Indigenous people, rubber tappers, extractivists and fishermen. They are the guardians of the forest for thousands of years and their rights need to be protected.
